PUBLIC BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC. TONIGHT, THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT WARNS IOWANS NOT TO IGNORE PANDEMIC PRECAUTIONS THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND. KCCI’S MARCUS MCINTOSH SPOKE TO MANY PEOPLE WHOSE HOLIDAY HAS ALREADY STARTED. HE IS AT SAYLORVILLE LAKE. MARCUS EVERYONE WE SPOKE WITH SAYS THE FACT THAT THEY’RE GOING TO MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR LABOR DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND IS NOT DIMINISH HOW SERIOUSLY THEY ARE TAKING COVID-19. >> LOOK AT THAT CATERPILLAR. THIS GROUP HAS BEEN SPENDING TIME TOGETHER FOR A WHILE THANK YOU KEEP TO THEMSELVES IN THE CAMPGROUND. SOCIAL DISTANCING AS A GROUP. TELLING US THEY ARE NOT TAKING THE PANDEMIC LIKELY BECAUSE THE SAFETY OF THEIR CHILDREN IS PRIORITY NUMBER ONE. >> WE TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY. WE WILL NOT BE RISKY WITH THIS. I FEEL COMFORTABLE. The Polk County Health Department is warning Iowans on Friday not to drop pandemic precautions over Labor Day weekend.Health officials issued a list of considerations for Iowans to make before making holiday plans, including limiting outings and wearing masks. Nola Aigner Davis, with Polk County Health, said Iowans must be smart about their actions over the weekend.“Just because it’s a holiday weekend, it doesn't give us a free pass to forget about COVID-19,” she said. “Think about everyone you are around.”KCCI reporter Marcus McIntosh traveled the Cherry Glenn Campground at Saylorville Lake to learn how visitors plan to celebrate the holiday safely.
